Easter backups expected at Narrows bridge toll plaza

Here’s a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation:
GIG HARBOR — Backups are expected in the new Narrows bridge manual toll lanes Easter evening between 3 and 10 p.m. WSDOT expects increased traffic as holiday travelers return home. Many will not have electronic toll accounts, so a higher-than-usual number is expected to use the toll booths.
“On Thanksgiving evening, twice as many vehicles as normal used the manual toll lanes,” said Greg Selstead, WSDOT Tolling Operations Director. “We’re expecting similar traffic patterns on Easter and urge drivers to use alternative drive times, if possible. Those with Good To Go! transponders are encouraged to stay in the left-hand lanes approaching the toll plaza or to use the 24th Street on-ramp in Gig Harbor to avoid the toll plaza completely.”
WSDOT will be monitoring traffic at the toll plaza and state Route 16, taking steps to manage traffic. All manual toll booths will be open during the peak hours.
While vehicles with Good to Go! transponders should use the left electronic toll lanes, there remains the possibility that traffic will back up in all lanes.
