ELECTION UPDATE: County Charter Amendments 1, 2 failing; Ranked Choice Voting repeal passing
Posted by Brian McLean on November 4th, 2009
Two contested Gig Harbor City Council positions were decided Tuesday night, and the Key Peninsula Fire Department will look a bit different after early voting returns have been counted.
Early returns show council incumbents Tim Payne and Derek Young beating respective challengers Mark Hoppen and Ken Asplund, while three other city races were uncontested. Gig Harbor Mayor Chuck Hunter was re-elected to a second four-year term, and incumbent council members Steve Ekberg and Paul Kadzik were re-affirmed to four-year terms.
On the Key Peninsula, Fire District 16’s Proposition 1, which would increase the current levy rate to $1.09 per $1,000 of assessed home value, is being defeated by a 14 percent margin — 331 total votes.
On the KPFD Board of Commissioners, Claudia Jones will unseat longtime commissioner Jim Bosch, and Sheila Hunt has beaten challenger Richard Hanna
