Lakebay man Set For Life after lottery winnings

Posted by Brian McLean on December 22nd, 2009

Benjamin Krug is Set For Life. The Lakebay man won $4,000 a week for life while playing the Set For Life scratch game from Washington’s Lottery on Monday.

Set For Life offers the largest prize of any of the four tickets in the Life series, according to the lottery. All the tickets feature top prizes that pay lucky winners weekly for life.

“I really didn’t think that much could be on a piece of cardboard,” Krug told lottery officials as he thought about how much he’d won on the small ticket.

Krug went to the Home Country store, 1309 Key Peninsula Hwy N. in Lakebay, and bought three Set For Life tickets, according to a news release.

“I was going to buy two, and then I bought the third,” he said. “(The winner) ended up being the last one I bought.”

Krug told his mother first.

“I think they’re a little … well, not ‘non-believing,’ but they’ll believe it when they see it,” he said with a laugh.

Krug told lottery officials he hasn’t decided what he’ll do with the money yet. For health reasons, he isn’t working right now, so some extra cash around the holidays will be helpful.

Since 1982, Washington’s Lottery has generated more than $2.5 billion to state programs, including education, construction, stadium debt reduction, economic development and problem gambling prevention and treatment. In fiscal year 2009, the lottery contributed more than $115 million to state programs.

Washington’s Lottery offers consumers several types of games: Mega Millions, Lotto, Hit 5, Match 4, The Daily Game, Daily Keno, and Scratch. For more information, visit www.walottery.com.
