Boys basketball: Gig Harbor boys struggle against Wolves in 55-40 loss
Posted by Marques Hunter on February 3rd, 2010
The Gig Harbor boys basketball team lost to South Kitsap 55-40 at home on Wednesday in a Class 4A Narrows League matchup.
The loss didn’t end their season, but the Tides (8-6 league, 13-6 overall) wanted the No. 2 seed headed into the league tournament. Gig Harbor will finish as the three or four seed depending on the Wilson vs. Foss result on Friday night.
Against the Wolves (3-10 league, 6-12 overall), Gig Harbor couldn’t find an offensive groove. The Tides scored in single digits during the first and third quarter. Conversely, South Kitsap went on an 11-1 run to begin the second half and never looked back. Wolves senior Leon La Deaux tied for a game-high 21 points and was 3-for-5 from long distance.
Gig Harbor junior post Austin Seferian-Jenkins went 8-for-14 from the field with 21 points. He scored 15 of the team’s 20 points in the first half.
